One of two brothers arrested in connection with two stabbings during a Labor Day street brawl in Dubuque has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Twenty-year-old Joseph Wright of Chicago pleaded guilty Monday to assault while participating in a felony and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon at a hearing in Dubuque County District Court.
Joseph Wright and his brother, Jerel, were originally charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of 23-year-old Derrick Tye, who survived the attack. Two criminal counts against Joseph Wright were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Jerel Wright pleaded not guilty earlier this month to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 24-year-old Jermaris West.
Jerel Wright is scheduled to go to trial March 8 on the murder charge. His attempted murder trial has been postponed.
