CEDAR RAPIDS - A 62-year-old driver's education instructor has been charged with two counts of providing alcohol to minors.
Reports indicate that Frederick D. Bindner, of 505 W. Courtland Drive, Mount Pleasant, allegedly offered two females, ages 14 and 16, a glass of wine to try at the Coralville Olive Garden on June 27.
The Coralville Police Department contacted Bindner, who is the owner of Auto Right Driving School, to request an interview after they had received word of the alleged incident from a concerned parent.
"The charges regarding the alcohol were then served and he [Bindner] was signed out," Coralville Police Chief Barry Bedford said.
Bedford says the offenses were originally marked on Coralville Police Departments criminal complaints as a simple misdemeanor, rather than a serious misdemeanor as in this specific case, by mistake.
"Because it is a serious misdemeanor, Bindner will not be able to just pay a fine - he will have to appear in court," Bedford said.
Iowa Court Records indicate that Bindner has been instructed to appear at the Johnson County Sheriff's Department to undergo booking procedures on or before his arraignment at the Johnson County Courthouse on September 1.
