An 11-year-old Cedar Rapids girl was struck by a car Wednesday morning, and the driver left the scene, police said.
Officers and an ambulance responded around 6:50 a.m. to Arrowridge Apartments, 5125 Johnson Ave. SW, to meet the girl shortly after the incident happened. The girl told police she was struck while she was standing in a parking lot near the corner of Johnson Avenue and First Avenue SW, waiting for the bus to take her to Roosevelt Middle School.
“She was not hurt terribly bad, because she walked back home,” Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
Police said the only vehicle description the girl could provide was that it was a silver car. Patrol units were notified to be on the lookout.
The girl was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for a possible leg injury, police said. She was released a short time later.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at (319) 286-5491.
