CEDAR RAPIDS - Police arrested a Cedar Rapids man Monday for leaving the scene of an accident that left a motorcyclist injured.
Robert F. Hathaway, 60, of 441 Lewellen Dr. NW, was taken into custody at his home about an hour after police said he was involved in an accident in the 4800 block of Johnson Avenue NW. He was charged with operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident among other charges.
Hathaway had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.212, according to a criminal complaint.
According to a police report, Hathaway pulled out of a parking lot in a pickup around 7:00 p.m. and went eastbound in the westbound lanes of Johnson Avenue NW. A westbound motorcycle was unable to avoid the pickup and the two vehicles collided.
Police said Hathaway slowed down, but then took off, according to witnesses. Officers were later given information about the location of Hathaway's pickup, which had a flat tire.
The motorcyclist, 46-year-old David Smith, of Cedar Rapids, was transported to Mercy Medical Center with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, police said.
Hathaway was transported to the Linn County Jail. An investigation was continuing.
