Dog dies in Iowa City house fire

IOWA CITY - No one was injured, but one dog died in an Iowa City fire that broke out Sunday afternoon.
According to a release from the Iowa City Fire Department, firefighters responded at 1:43 p.m. Sunday to a house fire near the corner of Benton and Gilbert streets.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire inside the house that was spreading to the home's exterior. Sixteen firefighters 'established an aggressive fire attack and extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes,” according to a Sunday news release.
One pet dog died in the incident, despite resuscitation efforts by fire personnel, the release states.
Crews managed to keep the fire from spreading and damage to the house and its contents is estimated at $30,000, according to the release. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Officials with the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and MidAmerican Energy Company assisted in the response.
