Dog dies in afternoon fire, man displaced

RIVERSIDE - A fire destroyed a trailer home just south of downtown Riverside Tuesday afternoon, killing one dog.
Officials on scene said a passerby called in the fire, located at 2871 130th St., just west of Riverside Rd., at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Once on scene, the Kalona and Riverside fire departments were able to contain the flames within 30 minutes, officials said. The Washington County Sheriff's office and Washington County Ambulance Service were also on scene.
According to a press release, the owner of the home is Terry Lehmkuhl. He was at work at the time, officials said, but one dog died in the fire.
The mobile home and a small camper located behind the home were destroyed and Lehmkuhl is displaced, officials said. According to a press release, the Red Cross is assisting Lehmkuhl.
According to officials, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
