DNR identifies boat operators in Coralville Lake fatality

James Zahorik, 42, of Cedar Rapids, was driving the boat that struck and killed a 12-year-old Fairfield girl Sunday evening on Coralville Lake, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Sarah Perkins was struck after she fell off an inner tube towed by a boat driven by Janyce Gray, 51, of Cedar Rapids, the DNR said.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. about 150 yards north of the Mehaffey Bridge in an area of unrestricted boating. Perkins had been camping and boating with friends over the Memorial Day weekend, the DNR said.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation is continuing, the DNR said.
