An Iowa Department of Human Services official says its unclear whether anyone will be disciplined because of a mistake that caused welfare payments to be doubled in January.
Spokesman Roger Munns says no decision has been made on possible disciplinary actions in the wake of the error.
Department officials say that more than 13,000 Family Investment Program clients received their regular benefits twice last week.
The department says recipients who access both payments will not receive a benefit in February. Families have the option of returning their check if it will assist their budgeting.
Munns says it was a serious error that embarrassed the department.
