A North Liberty home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage early this morning after discarded smoking materials sparked a fire, officials said.
Fire crews say smoke detectors alerted the residents at the one-story home at 410 W. Zeller St., in North Liberty to the fire around 12:50 a.m.
No one was injured from the fire. Firefighters took about 45 minute to extinguish the fire. The Red Cross assisted one adult and two children with clothing and food.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental due to discarded smoking materials, according to a release by North Liberty Fire Department Capt. Craig Voparil.
