Firefighters were called to a residential fire in Coralville after a neighbor spotted smoke coming from a trailer, authorities said.
According to a news release, firefighters arrived at lot 357 of the Western Hills Trailer Park, 3701 Second St., at 9:10 a.m. Monday. They spent 30 minutes battling flames contained inside the home, which is owned by Marc Noel.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but officials said the living room sustained heavy damage, and more smoke damage occurred throughout the trailer. Authorities said they are estimating damage at $40,000.
The cause remains under investigation, but investigators determined the origin to be from improperly discarded smoking material.
Coralville firefighters were aided by the Coralville Police Department and the Johnson County Ambulance Service.
