BELOIT, Wis. - Despite hitting three home runs, the Cedar Rapids Kernels dropped a 6-5 decision to Beloit on Memorial Day at Pohlman Field.
Cedar Rapids Washington grad Chad Christensen hit his third home run of the Midwest League season. Bryan Haar had his team-leading eighth and Mitch Garver his sixth.
But starting pitcher Kohl Stewart (1-2) couldn't make it out of the third inning, allowing five hits, four walks and four Beloit runs. In the last 11 games, Kernels starting pitchers have a 11.40 earned run average.
Cedar Rapids (23-28) came within a run, 6-5, with a three-run eighth inning but went down in order in the ninth. The teams play again Tuesday at 11:05 a.m.
The affiliate switch to the Minnesota Twins has afforded new merchandising opportunities for the Cedar Rapids Kernels as the old Angels logo is fading away from Veterans Memorial Stadium. ¬ Photo taken Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 in Cedar Rapids. (Chris Earl/The Gazette-KCRG)
