Deputies investigate drowning in Johnson County pond
Crews find victim in golf course pond under maintenance equipment

A person drowned Wednesday afternoon in a pond at a golf course south of Iowa City, authorities said.
At 1:39 p.m., a 911 caller from the Pleasant Valley Golf Course, 4390 Sand Rd. SE, reported there was a drowning at the course, which spans 125 acres. First responders arrived and found the victim was fully submerged in a pond, trapped under maintenance equipment.
The victim was recovered from the water and declared dead at the scene, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office, which did not release the victim’s name or gender until the victim’s family had been notified, said it was investigating the incident.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Hills Fire Department, the Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Emergency Management and the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
