CEDAR RAPIDS — A demonstration to show solidarity for a black motorist shot by a Cedar Rapids police officer has been rescheduled for a second time.
The demonstration in support of Jerime Mitchell is now set to take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 6621 C Ave. NE in Cedar Rapids.
This is one day before the date organizers chose after postponing the event in January due to inclement weather.
The Iowa Justice Alliance, the group coordinating the demonstration, hopes to show community support for Mitchell, a Cedar Rapids resident shot by Officer Lucas Jones during a traffic stop in November. Group organizers hope the event also will bring attention to a list of demands they've drafted that they say would bring about changes at the Linn County Attorney's Office and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
