Several buildings along First Avenue in northeast Cedar Rapids are being demolished this week to make room for parking.

UnityPoint Health — St. Luke’s Hospital bought the former Citywide Cleaners buildings located at 838 First Ave. and 855 A Ave. NE. The hospital also bought two adjacent buildings, at 834 and 836 First Ave.

A hospital spokeswoman said UnityPoint Health — St. Luke’s is planning to expand its valet services and general parking for patients in the Medical Office Plaza.

The new parking lots will use permeable pavers.
