Demolition makes way for new medical building

Demolition is completed on a building that will make way for the start of the new Cedar Rapids Medical District.
Crews last week demolished the former St.
Luke's Children's Specialty Services office at 1000 Second Ave. SE.
The single-story building was vacated several years ago when the office, which provides day treatment for children with behavioral issues, moved to 4050 River Ridge Rd. NE.
Physicians' Clinic of Iowa plans a new $40 million “medical mall” at Second Avenue and 10th Street SE. The medical district will stretch between St. Luke's and Mercy Medical Center.
