Parents in North Liberty have an interesting dilemma.
The Iowa City school district mailed letters to the families who will attend Garner Elementary School next year, letting them know of their new school assignment.
But there's a catch.
Penn and Van Allen students who will be in fifth and sixth grade in 2010-11, and their attendance area has changed to Garner, will be allowed to complete their elementary education at their current school.
Their younger siblings don't have the same option. And parents will be responsible for transportation, should their child remain a student at Penn or Van Allen.
This is a tough call. My sentimental side says to let the kids finish fifth and sixth grades at Penn or Van Allen. But my practical mind thinks of the headache it would be to have children at two separate elementary schools.
Parents must submit a transfer form to the district's central office by Jan. 11. What would you do?
