Davenport man sentenced to 11 years on firearms and drug charges

A Davenport man was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a gun and cocaine.

Lorenzo Jones, 32, previously pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Iowa to felon in possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine base with the intent to distribute.

During a traffic stop conducted in Iowa City on Jan. 7, Jones was found with a stolen, loaded Diamondback .380 semi-automatic handgun and 10 plastic bags of cocaine base that he intended to distribute, court documents show.

Jones has at least two prior felony convictions, according to court records.

U.S. District Chief Judge John A. Jarvey sentenced Jones to 135 months and also ordered him to serve three years of supervised release following his prison time. He also will pay $200 to the Iowa Crime Victims' Fund and the firearm involved in the offense was forfeited.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Davenport Police Department. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted this case.
