The estimated damages of a fire that ravaged a North Liberty apartment complex are expected to exceed $1 million according to North Liberty Fire Capt. Craig Voparil.
Though the cause of the fire at 365 Beaver Kreek Center remains undetermined, Voparil said officials have determined the fire started on the second floor on the exterior rear side of the building.
Voparil said the North Liberty department's investigation, aided by the assistance of the state fire patrol, has also ruled the fire was accidental.
Nine apartments were damaged in the blaze, and all residents in those units have been displaced, officials said. Those occupants are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
No residents were injured during the fire, but one firefighter was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with minor injuries. Voparil said he was released shortly after.
