Czech Village streets closed this weekend for Houby Days
Weekend celebration features parade on Saturday

CEDAR RAPIDS — Festivities are springing up this weekend in Czech Village for the annual Houby Days celebration and parade.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the Houby Days parade, organized by the Czech Village Association, will march down 16th Avenue SW, cross the “Bridge of the Lions” and end at C Street SW.
In conjunction with Houby Days, Up N Smoke BBQ is hosting the Up N Smokin’ Jam on Saturday on the Vintage Market patio, 95 16th Ave SW. Up N Smoke BBQ’s Facebook page invites patrons to enjoy live music and an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet.
Sunday activities include music, food and a kolache eating contest.
Road closures
Roads affected by the events will be closed 6 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. The roads are:
- Inspiration Place SW from 15th Avenue SW to 16th Avenue SW
- 16th Avenue SW from C Street SW to Inspiration Place SW
Roads for the parade close at 6 a.m. Saturday. These roads are:
- 16th Avenue SW/SE from Inspiration Place SW to Second Street SE
- Second Street SE from 16th Avenue SE southeasterly to end of road
This year’s grand marshal is Ashley Osborn, a past Miss Czech/Slovak Iowa. Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell will join Osborn. This year’s celebration is dedicated to the memory of Master Czech Folk Artist Marj Nedl.
