Czech Point Restaurant and Pub, a sports pub and Czech-themed family restaurant

CLUTIER - As Main Street businesses dried up in his hometown of Clutier in eastern Tama County, Paul Dvorak, now a Texas businessman, had a kind of snapshot series view.

Dvorak would return every year from Dallas for the Bohemian Plum Festival, formerly Clutier Fun Days, to find fewer business doors open in the town of 220 people.

When the town's last watering hole, the Lighthouse Lounge, closed about 18 months ago, he lost the final spot where he could drop in to see friends and former neighbors.

“There were absolutely no cars parked on Main Street, and it was very depressing to me because, as a child, my dad used to bring me to Clutier and there was always a lot of action,” said Dvorak, whose family still has a farm five miles from town.

The experience led to the opening this past June of the Czech Point Restaurant and Pub, a combination sports pub and Czech-themed family restaurant in two restored storefronts.
