(AP) - Just days before he officially kicks off his campaign for re-election, Gov. Chet Culver offered a spirited defense of his record and a promise to offer voters a clear choice on issues ranging from education to health care.
Culver, a Democrat, will face one of three Republicans in the November general election. He spoke Thursday on the public television program, "Iowa Press," focusing on his record four days before he'll begin a weeklong trip that launches his campaign for a second term.
Culver says he'll make sure voters know where he stands on issues, including early childhood education, stem cell research and women's health care. He says his stands are markedly different from those backed by the Republican candidates.
