Former Gov. Chet Culver's campaign committee has about $30,000 in the bank, although it owes about $18,000 according to its latest filing.
The Chet Culver Committee had $238,139 on hand Oct. 19, the start of the final reporting period. The committee received $170,074 in contributions during the period and a $100,000 loan from Des Moines real estate executive William Knapp, half of which has been repaid.
The committee spent $427,840, leaving the $30,372 balance. Among the late-campaign expenditures was $3,070 for ads in The Gazette.
The campaign's outstanding debts include $3,646 owed the Cedar Rapids-based Iowa Interstate Railroad to rent a train for a last-minute whistlestop tour across Eastern Iowa.
The campaign filed its report with the Iowa Campaign Ethics and Disclosure Board about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, the deadline.
