Iowa City police say a Crimestopper tip led to the arrest of a suspect in the death of an Illinois landlord.
A police spokesman says the useful tip resulted in the arrest of 17-year-old Charles Thompson in connection with the Oct. 8 death of 64-year-old John Versypt of Cordova, Ill. at an Iowa City property he managed.
Thompson has been charged with first-degree murder and on Wednesday entered a not guilty plea to the charge.
Sgt. Denise Brotherton says the tip that led to Thompson was received on Oct. 11. She didn't provide details on what the tip entailed. Thompson was not charged with the slaying until February.
At the time of his arrest, police said they believe Thompson planned to rob Versypt.
According to police, investigators have the clothing Thompson wore during the murder.
