POSTVILLE - Crews are on scene of a fire that broke out in a downtown Postville bakery late Saturday morning.
The fire began at around 10:30 a.m. and fire departments from ten area communities, including Oelwein, Monona and Luana have responded to the fire and are trying to keep it from spreading to adjacent storefronts.
As of 1 p.m., firefighters were still battling the blaze at the Postville Bakery & Restaurant, located at 112 S. Lawler St. in Postville.
"The firemen are working hard to keep it contained. The building is right in the middle of the block," said Mark Looney, manager of Moore's Foods, a nearby grocery store about 150 yards from the bakery. "Downtown is quite smokey," he said.
No information was immediately available as to whether anyone was injured.
If you have photos or video from the scene, email them to newsroom@kcrg.com.
