At age 13, Doug Clifford and his middle school buddies picked up some instruments and started a band - back in the days when nearly every block had at least one garage filled with crashing beats and wailing guitars. Unlike the majority of musical wannabes, The Blue Velvets - Clifford and pals Stu Cook and John Fogerty - found the key to zoom out of the garage and into the fast lane. Hooking up with John's older brother, Tom, these boys from the San Francisco Bay Area changed their name and took their swampy bayou sounds to the top of the charts.
Creedence Clearwater Revival became a hit-making machine in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s with songs like “Susie Q,” “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Down on the Corner,” “Travelin' Band,” “Who'll Stop the Rain,” “Lookin' Out My Back Door,” “I Put a Spell on You,” “Cotton Fields” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” Just to name a few.
The group officially disbanded in 1972, but in 1995, drummer Clifford and bass player Cook launched Creedence Clearwater Revisited, coming to the Riverside Casino's outdoor stage Saturday night.
