Couple, pets escape Iowa City house fire

IOWA CITY - The residents and two cats of an Iowa City home escaped a fire on Sunday afternoon at 2711 Ferndale Drive.
Investigators say the fire started in the garage, but quickly spread to the house. The garage and the house were destroyed.
Fire crews said neighbors tried to help the couple, who have not been identified, out of the home but had some trouble convincing them to come out. That's because they were trying to coax their pets out of the burning house.
Firefighters warn not to do this and when there is a fire you should get out, stay out, and call 9-1-1. The Red Cross helping the couple with a place to stay.
