By the time the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory ended at 3 p.m. today, the first significant snowfall of the season had blanketed the Corridor.
The majority of Linn County received 5 to 6 inches of snow overnight Saturday and into today, while most of Johnson County had between 4 and 6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.
A heavy band of snow was expected to hit Cedar, Clinton, Scott and Muscatine counties with 6 to 8 inches of snow later in the day today, according to the National Weather Service.
The wet and heavy snow had Cedar Rapids crews out in force today to clear off roadways. The National Weather Service cautions snow and slush on roads can lead to hazardous conditions. Crews were still out removing snow this afternoon and were to remain out until 9 p.m. to continue clearing roads, according to the city's Twitter page.
Iowa City crews also worked through the day, salting and sanding. According to the Iowa City's Twitter page, officials continue to evaluate road conditions and plan to provide updates as needed.
Melting conditions are likely for Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 41 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The low is expected to dip to 29 degrees Monday night.
Another round of snowfall isn't in the National Weather Service's forecast until Saturday. A 50 percent chance of snow is expected during the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 27 degrees.
Before that, temperatures are expected to dip midweek, according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday's forecast calls for partly sunny skies during the day with a high of 34 degrees, followed by partly cloudy skies at night and a low of 20 degrees.
Wednesday's high temperature is expected to be 23 degrees under party sunny skies before the mercury drops to 11 degrees under mostly cloudy skies Wednesday night.
Thursday's high is forecast to be 19 degrees.
