Coralville woman accused of driving drunk to police department

Feb. 7, 2012 1:10 pm
A 24-year-old woman was arrested late Monday on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, her second such offense, after officers say she drove drunk to the Coralville Police Department to pick up her purse.
An officer saw Emily Ann Hovelson, of Coralville, pull into the department's parking lot, 1503 5
th
St., about 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to a criminal complaint. Hovelson explained that she was there to pick up her purse, police reported.
After speaking with Hovelson, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and bloodshot and watery eyes, according to the complaint. Hovelson submitted to a test that showed her blood alcohol content to be at .219, almost three times the legal limit, officers reported.
After being read her rights, Hovelson admitted she drank enough that morning to “black out,” according to the complaint.
This is Hovelson's second OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor.
She was released from the Johnson County Jail on Tuesday morning.
