The Outback Steakhouse in Coralville will serve customers for the last time this weekend before closing its doors.
Managing Partner Chris Riggins said the restaurant will serve its last meals on Sunday. Riggins called the closing a “sad situation,” adding the business decision was made at the corporate level.
Riggins said Outback is offering severance packages to its 50 to 60 employees. He also said Outback is offering to transfer workers to its restaurants in Cedar Rapids and Davenport.
The 6,200-square-foot restaurant in Coral Valley Market opened in May 2005. The restaurant's size is roughly typical for Outback, which usually seats about 200.
Tampa, Fla.-based Outback operates about 980 locations in North America, Australia, the Carribean, Southeast Asia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Venezuela.
