Coralville man charged in sexual abuse

UPDATED: A 28-year-old Coralville man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman on St. Patrick's Day in Iowa City.

Eric Steven Kulow, of Coralville, was charged March 18 with third-degree sexual abuse. He is accused of assaulting a woman while she slept on a couch.

The woman had been drinking with friends that evening and stayed at their residence to sleep on the couch, according to a police report. She awoke in the middle of the night to a man sexually assaulting her. The woman allegedly told Kulow to stop, and he complied.

The incident was reported to police and the woman received an exam at the hospital on March 18. Kulow later admitted to police that the woman had been asleep when he performed the sex act and that she had not given consent, according to a police report.
