The Army Corps of Engineers is reporting the Coralville Lake is about 11 feet higher than normal.
“The boaters will like it because it will open some areas you usually can't get to so hopefully there won't be as much crowding as usual,” said John Castle, operations manager for the United States Army Corps at Coralville Lake.
Castle believes this will be the busiest weekend at the lake of the whole year.
“The warmer the weather it seems like the more visitors you have,” he explained.
Castle said he hopes everyone has fun this weekend but pays particular attention to safety.
“One of the big things is not to be mixing alcohol and boating and swimming,” said Castle. “We were lucky last year – no drownings. Probably more than half of our drownings have alcohol involved.”
Castle also encourages boaters to beware of floating debris.
Campgrounds surrounding Coralville Lake are full throughout the weekend.
