A Cedar Rapids man convicted of burglary and given probation, only stayed out of jail about six days before he was arrested again on Sunday for burglary.
Charges of second-degree burglary and interference with officials acts were filed against Kwanie Young, 34, Monday in Linn County District Court. He is accused of breaking into the home of Takesha Rogers on B Avenue NE.
Rogers told police she left to go to the grocery store and when she came back her window was opened, according to a criminal complaint. She called police and Young ran from the residence. Officers caught up to him nearby, hiding in some bushes, and he then resisted arrest, according to police.
Sixth Judicial District Judge Lars Anderson just sentenced Young on July 13 for two counts of third-degree burglary that occurred at two different residences in January and March. Both involved Young entering the homes by removing a window screen or through a broken window. He stole a computer, television, and clothes in those burglaries.
Anderson suspended his 10-year prison sentence and gave him three years probation on those charges.
Young has a lengthy criminal history including convictions for stabbing a woman with a knife, assault on police officers, harassment, interference with official acts, possession of marijuan,a and theft, according to court records.
A judge set a $25,000 bail for Young on Monday and he remains in the Linn County Jail.
