A man charged in July for assaulting a deputy by tossing a milk carton filled with urine at him is being charged again for throwing his urine at a different Linn County Sheriff's deputy on Tuesday.
Kwanie Young, 34, of Cedar Rapids, a convicted burglar pending sentencing in his third burglary from last year at Jim's Foods grocery store, was charged Thursday with assault on a peace officer. The complaint shows he threw a cup of urine on a deputy when he collected Young's meal tray from his jail cell.
In July, Young was charged with assault on a peace officer for almost the same offense. He is accused of filling a milk carton with urine that time and then throwing it at a deputy, who was collecting lunch trays from inmates, the complaint shows.
Young, convicted of two home burglaries and already on probation, pleaded guilty in April to a burglary at Jim's Foods grocery store. He bashed in the glass on the front door to gain access after the store closed for the day on Oct. 11, 2015, authorities said.
Sixth Judicial District Judge Lars Anderson in 2015 gave Young probation for two counts of third-degree burglary that occurred at two different homes in 2014 and 2015. Six days later, he was arrested for breaking into a home.
Court records show that te burglary charge was dropped. Young's girlfriend told police he broke into her home, but then she later recanted her story. Young was still convicted of another charge, interference with official acts.
Linn County Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden said Thursday a hearing to revoke Young's probation set for Monday will be reset, so all the charges can be handled at one time. If Young's probation is revoked, he faces 10 years on the first two burglaries, five years on the Jim's Food burglary and if convicted on both assault charges, another 10 years, for a total of 25 years in prison.
His trial on the July charge of assault on a peace officer is set for Jan. 23. No trial date on the charge from Tuesday.
Young has a lengthy criminal history including convictions for stabbing a woman with a knife, assault on police officers, harassment, possession of marijuana and theft, according to court records.
