Construction worker killed in accident off I-380

One person was killed Thursday in an industrial accident at the construction site off I-380 and Wright Brothers Boulevard, according to the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

First responders were called to the site at 2:19 p.m. Thursday, where they found a road worker had died after being hit by a large piece of construction equipment. The name of the deceased worker has not been released.

The accident happened on a part of the construction area that was not directly on the roadway, and was not a result of traffic being constricted in the area, according to the police department.

The Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration received a report about the fatality and is investigating the incident, according to a spokesperson. No other information has been released about the investigation.
