IOWA CITY - A portion of the IWV Road intersection with Hebl Avenue, where the entrance to the Iowa City Landfill is located, will be closed for a few months for reconstruction work.
According to an Iowa City news release, the Johnson County Secondary Roads Department will begin work Monday, weather permitting, on the reconstruction of the intersection at IWV Road and Hebl Avenue.
The project will close IWV Road - which becomes Melrose Avenue as it enters Iowa City - just west of the intersection, closing off access to the landfill from that direction until the end of October.
Access to the landfill will only be allowed from the east while work takes place and a detour route will be posted from Ive Avenue to 340th Street to Ireland Avenue to Interstate 80 to Highway 218 to Melrose Avenue.
