Community picnic to precede Iowa City fireworks

IOWA CITY – The city and the Iowa City Downtown District are teaming up to offer a community picnic as part of the traditional fireworks display July 4
.
The picnic will start with children's activities at 5:30 p.m., with live music at 7 p.m. People are encouraged to bring their own picnic food or to eat at a restaurant.
The fireworks will launch about 9:45 p.m. near the Iowa Memorial Union.
Parking on the street and in ramps will be free all day.
