Fire officials determined a coffee pot caused an Easter morning fire that damaged an apartment in Cedar Rapids.
Crews responded to 511 17th St. SE around 5:40 a.m. on April 4 when a neighbor reported the fire. They found a majority of the damage in the kitchen of the one-unit apartment building.
Fire Department spokesman Greg Buelow said investigators found a coffee pot at the source of the unintentional blaze. They determined it was either left on and overheated or it had an electrical failure, causing the blaze.
No one was hurt in the fire. The occupant, 44-year-old Daniel Lee, was not at home when the fire started. The property is owned by Tony and Kay Staub of Cedar Rapids.
Investigators determined the charred coffee pot to the right of the toaster was the source of the fire at 511 17th St. SE on April 4, 2010. (Cedar Rapids Fire Department)
