CEDAR RAPIDS - Coe College announced Tuesday it will induct three former Kohawk athletes and a former coach into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame during homecoming weekend next week.
Softball player Peggy Schmitt Goerdt, tennis player Rajesh Venkatraman and basketball player Chris Weih will be honored with former softball coach Bob Timmins at the 43rd hall of fame banquet Oct. 16.
Goerdt was a second-team all-American at first base her senior season of 1990. Among her exploits is a school-record 23 career triples.
Venkatraman combined with Jon Turbett for a school-record 52 career doubles victories, second in Coe history. He graduated in 1996.
Weih scored 984 points in two seasons at Coe, leading the Kohawks in scoring in 41 of his 44 career games. He was a fifth-team all-American his senior year (1997).
Timmons retired in 2014 after 29 seasons as head coach at Coe and Mount Mercy. He finished with a career record of 927-366, one of three coaches in NCAA Division III history to hit the 900-victory plateau.
