Closing of Second Avenue delayed until May 16

CEDAR RAPIDS - Motorists will have another month to take Second Avenue SE into downtown Cedar Rapids.
The closure date for Second Avenue SE between 10th Street and 12th Street is expected to be May 16.
Originally, that portion of Second Avenue was scheduled to close in early April for construction to begin on the Physicians' Clinic of Iowa medical mall.
Michael Dufoe, project engineer for the Public Works Department, said the delay will allow the city to convert Third Avenue SE from 13th Street to Eighth Street and Second Avenue SE from 13th Street to 12th Street from one-way to two-way. Also, 13th Street will be converted to two-way between Second and Third avenues SE.
