A 31-year-old Clinton man was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for child pornography Thursday in Davenport.
U.S. District Judge Stephanie Rose of the Southern District of Iowa sentenced Ryan Lynn Nelson following his guilty pleas last March to one count each of distribution, receipt and possession of child pornography. Nelson was also ordered to serve eight years of supervised release following his prison time and to pay a fine of $10,000, victim restitution of $2,500, and $300 to the Crime Victims Fund.
His computers and contraband images were also ordered to be forfeited.
The Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified an IP address associated with Nelson that had child pornography available for download, and obtained a list of files that he was sharing, including numerous files that had names and labels associated with child pornography in August 2011. Three files containing child pornography from the specific IP address were downloaded.
A search warrant was later issued for Nelson's residence Oct. 3, 2011, where police recovered two computers containing numerous images of child pornography.
This case was investigated by the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force including the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the Davenport Police Department, the DeWitt Police Department, the Clinton County Sheriff's Office, and the Clinton Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District.
