Clinton coming back to Iowa for more small-scale campaigning

May. 14, 2015 7:00 am
DES MOINES — Hillary Clinton is returning to Iowa for another series of intimate campaigning.
Clinton, the Democratic candidate for president and former U.S. Secretary of State, will visit Iowa on Monday and Tuesday — at locations to be announced later — to discuss policy ideas with voters in small settings, her campaign said Thursday morning.
The campaign events will be similar to the ones Clinton held during her previous trip to Iowa over two days in mid-April.
During that trip, which came shortly after she officially announced her candidacy for president, Clinton held roundtable discussions with education leaders at a Kirkwood Community College center in Jones County and with small- business owners in central Iowa.
Clinton's campaign has emphasized holding smaller events during what they have called the 'ramp-up' portion of her campaign.
Clinton, also a former U.S. senator and first lady, is the overwhelming favorite to earn the Democratic nomination for president in the 2016 race. The most recent polls in the race all show her with at least a 50-point lead over potential competitors.
Bernie Sanders, a liberal independent U.S. senator from Vermont, is the only other Democrat officially running for president. Other potential challengers include former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia, and Vice President Joe Biden.
