Cincinnati Reds send former Prairie prep Scott Schebler to minor leagues

CEDAR RAPIDS — Former Cedar Rapids Prairie prep Scott Schebler was shipped by the Cincinnati Reds to Triple-A Louisville over the weekend.
The 25-year-old outfielder came into the season with promise of semi-regular playing time in left field, but Adam Duvall has played well enough to get most of the starts there. Schebler was hitting .188 in 69 plate appearances for Cincinnati, but 12 of those were as a pinch hitter.
'I don't want to sit him on the bench,' Manager Bryan Price told the Cincinnati Enquirer. 'Duvall has been a run producer and has done a real nice job in left field. He's kind of taken the position in the lineup, the lion's share of the at-bats.
'Now that it's not a platoon situation as much, I don't want Scott as a bench player, as a 25-year-old guy we went out and got because we think he has the potential to be an everyday player.'
Schebler told the Enquirer he understood the move.
'They see me as a guy they want up here to get at-bats every day,' he said. 'That's obviously not happening right now. The best option is to go down and get at-bats. I'm not mad about it or anything. I'm kind of excited to go play.'
