Christmas tree disposal rules

Cedar Rapids
The Indian Creek Nature Center in Cedar Rapids is accepting trees at the Sac and Fox Trailhead parking lot just north of the bridge over Indian Creek on Bertram Road. The lot is open to people and private tree lots that wish to dispose of unsold Christmas trees. The trees will be chipped and used as mulch on the center's trails system. Trees must be unflocked and free of decorations, tinsel, tree stands, nails and tree bags.
The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling trucks also will collect trees as part of its yard waste collection service. Trees must be cut into 3-foot sections, unflocked and free of decorations, tinsel, tree stands, nails and tree bags. Put tree pieces next to garbage and recycling containers. Flocked trees will be picked up as garbage collection and should also be cut into 3-foot sections.
Iowa City
Trees and other holiday discards will be collected curbside on regular routes afterJan. 1 through early February. In addition to trees, wreaths and garland up to 4 feet long without wire may be placed at the curb. The items may also be left at the city landfill.
Coralville
Crews will collect trees curbside only in January. Decorations and stands should be removed.
Marion
Unflocked trees with no decorations, wire or stands will be taken curbside Dec. 29 through Jan. 7.
