CEDAR RAPIDS - A spokesman for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department says crews successfully contained a chlorine gas leak at the Northwest Water Treatment Plant.
Alarms wet off around 7:40 p.m. saying there were higher than normal levels of chlorine gas in the chlorine cylinder room. Greg Buelow, with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department says there was no one in the room at the time. When the alarm goes off, a chemical scrubber comes on automatically, which ventilates the room. The leak was contained around 9:35p.m.
Buelow says there was no contamination of water to the public.
