An 18-year-old has been arrested after police said he used a shotgun during a home invasion in Cedar Rapids nearly four months ago.
Antesio D. Sykes, of 117 23rd St. Dr. SE in Cedar Rapids, was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of first-degree burglary. Police said he was one of four or five males who assaulted a man on Jan. 2 at an apartment at 3225 Pioneer Ave. SE.
According to police, the intruders punched a 54-year-old man repeatedly and stole a cell phone from the apartment before leaving. The man who was assaulted was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital with injuries to his head and body, officers said.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Sykes was identified through a police investigation and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Officers took him into custody in the area of First Avenue East and 16th Street. No other arrests have been made in the case.
Sykes was taken to the Linn County Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
