CEDAR RAPIDS - A new study ranks Cedar Rapids the No. 6 best city in America for tech workers.
The survey by Smart Asset, a New York-based financial technology company, shows Cedar Rapids tech workers make up 4.24 percent of the employed workforce, and the unemployment rate for those with bachelor's degrees is 1.99 percent, which is the 13th lowest in the country.
'Located in Iowa's ‘Creative Corridor,' Cedar Rapids has made a name for itself lately as a land of opportunity,” according to the study.
Des Moines came in at No. 8 in the study, which noted the Midwest is a tech-friendly region and Iowa, in particular, is a big tech state.
'The low cost of living and relatively high salaries helped the region dominate our list,” according to the key findings of the study.
The report adds, 'America's tech scene isn't just a California phenomenon.”
The study factored in employed population working in tech, the wage ratio of the average tech salary compared to all other jobs in the city, the unemployment rate for workers with bachelor's degrees, and the median income for tech workers.
It concluded the average salary for tech workers in Cedar Rapids is $77,470.
