Cedar Rapids police are asking for help in identifying a male who shoplifted from Sears before stealing a car in late April.
According to a release, the subject entered Sears, 4600 1st Ave. NE, at about noon on April 30, took merchandise without paying for it, and walked towards the parking lot. After an official from the store's Loss Prevention department approached the man about the shoplifting, he took off running. Store employees then lost sight of the man near the south side of the store's parking lot. A few minutes later, a car was reported stolen from Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, according to the release.
Officials describe the suspect as wearing a white shirt and khaki pants.
The department is urging people with information on this, or any, crime to call Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME (272-7463) or text CRIMES (275637) and in the message or subject line, type 5227 and the tip. Those with information can then continue to trade information with an investigator and text STOP to opt out at any time.
If a person's information leads to an arrest, he or she may be eligible for a reward and all calls are anonymous.
