A Cedar Rapids police officer was punched several times in the face over the weekend, but was not expected to miss any work.
Officer Eric Liedtke was assaulted Sunday when he responded to a disturbance at the Hinzman Center, a halfway house in Cedar Rapids. A caller reported a resident with a wooden-handled brush was out of control and threatening staff.
Police found Robert C. Kinney, 28, of 1051 29th Ave. SW, at the scene. According to the police report, he resisted when he was told he would be arrested for a probation violation.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said a Taser was deployed, but was not effective. She said Liedtke suffered a couple "goose-eggs," but did not need medical treatment.
Kinney has been charged with assault on a peace officer with injury and interference with official acts. He was transported to the Linn County Jail.
