CEDAR RAPIDS - Police are investigating after officers found two people dead inside a home Tuesday morning.
Police were called to 731 Memorial Drive SE at 8:20 a.m. to check on the welfare of those inside, according to a release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Officers entered the home after there was no answer at the door and found a male and a female victim inside. Investigators believe the victims died of gunshot wounds in what appears to be a murder-suicide.
Just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, dispatchers received a 911 call from that address but the phone was disconnected before dispatchers could talk, according to police. A short time later, a male on a cellphone called 911 and gave the same address on Memorial Drive SE. On callback, the phone went straight to voice mail and officers who went to the home said it appeared dark and quiet.
Authorities are withholding the names and ages of those involved until family members have been notified.
Investigators do not believe the public is at risk and is awaiting on autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
