Cedar Rapids police investigating suspicious death as homicide

Cedar Rapids police are investigating a suspicious death this past Friday at 228 Jacolyn Drive SW as a homicide.

Cedar Rapids police department on Monday said an autopsy performed by the state medical examiner over the weekend classified the death as a homicide.

Police went to the Shamrock Apartments to conduct a welfare check just after 4:30 p.m. on April 4.

When police arrived on scene, they found the body of a woman, identified as Shanna Lee Beyhl, 37, of Cedar Rapids.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, adding they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public.

This death marks the seventh homicide in Cedar Rapids this year. No further details regarding the cause of death were provided.

There were three homicides in Cedar Rapids in 2013.
